Radiation dose tracking in computed tomography: Red alerts and feedback. Implementing a radiation dose alert system in CT
نویسندگان
چکیده
IntroductionThis study investigates instances of elevated radiation dose on a tracking system to determine their aetiologies. It aimed investigate the impact radiographer feedback these alerts.MethodsOver two six-month periods 11,298 CT examinations were assessed using DoseWatch. Red alerts (dose length products twice median) identified and independent reviewers established whether true (unjustifiable) or false (justifiable). During second time period radiographers used tool state cause alert. A Chi–Square test was assess red alert incidence decreased following implementation feedback.ResultsThere 206 357 during first periods, respectively. These occurred commonly with pulmonary angiography, brain, body examinations. Procedural documentation errors patient size accounted for 57% 43% alerts, Radiographer provided 17% studies; this not associated significant change in number but declined (from 7 3) (?2 = 4.14; p 0.04).ConclusionProcedural as well patient-related factors are Implementation reduced alerts.Implications practiceThe rate alerts. Low uptake systems is an issue; workflow needs be considered address this.

Optimization of Radiation Dose in Cranial Computed Tomography among Adults: Assessment of Radiation Dose against Image Quality
Introduction: The rapid use of computed tomography (CT) scan is of great concern, due to increase in patients’ dose. Optimization of CT protocol is a vital issue in dose reduction. This study aimed to optimize radiation dose in cranial CT and assess modifications in image quality under radiation dose reduction. Material and Methods: A poly(me...
متن کاملPatient-Specific Radiation Dose and Cancer Risk in Computed Tomography Examinations in Ondo, Nigeria
Introduction: The dose in computed tomography (CT) often approach or exceed the optimum levels, thereby increasing the probability of cancer induction. With wide application of this diagnostic test, it is expedient to determine the effective dose (ED) for each patient to estimate their cancer risk. This study was conducted to investigate the patient-specific dose (PSD) and cancer risk in CT exa...
متن کاملDiagnostic Reference Levels for Computed Tomography Examinations in Iran: A Nationwide Radiation Dose Survey
Introduction: International Commission on Radiological Protection introduced three basic principles of radiation protection, namely justification, optimization, and dose limit. Medical exposure has no dose limits, and generally, diagnostic reference levels are used as a tool for optimization of patient protection. Material and Methods: Dosimetry was performed on 20 CT scanners located in 14 cit...
متن کاملRadiation Dose in Paediatric Computed Tomography: Risks and Benefits
Computed tomography (CT) is a powerful tool for the accurate and effective diagnosis and treatment of a variety of conditions because it allows high-resolution three-dimensional images to be acquired very quickly. However as the number of CT procedures performed globally have continued to increase; with growing concerns about patient protection. Currently, no system is in place to track patient...
